the artists who have inspired jon

Gustav Klimt

Jon was introduced to the works of Gustav Klimt when an acquaintance viewing one of his pieces reflected back to him that his style reminded him of Klimt. This prompted Jon to research the artist and discover their art connection was significant in more ways than one.

Charlie Ciali

Charlie Ciali is a Palm Springs, CA artist who Jon has studied under. Charlie influenced Jon in the beauty of "going out of the lines" and that "there are no mistakes in art".

Karla Leopold

Idyllwild and Del Mar, CA artist Karla Leopold has inspired Jon. He describes her as a "fearless artist" who works in many different mediums.

Helen Bradley

Helen Bradley is Jon's mentor. In his words, "she has an exquisite talent to remove one's barriers to creativity."

Flora Bowley

Jon has studied with and followed Flora Bowley for several years. "She creates wonderful, soulful, abstract pieces and is a great teacher."

Craig Cowan

Craig Cowan was a friend to Jon. He passed away in 1993. He was one of Jon's favorite black and white photographers. Craig was a self-taught artist who photographed, developed and printed all of his own work.

Briggs Whiteford

Briggs Whiteford and Jon attended the University of Santa Monica together. She has classical training but according to Jon, "she enriches this and her art with a deep spiritual connection that draws from her own higher self beliefs or the metaphors of classical literature and contemporary poetry. She brings rich life experiences to fruition from angst and joy. She is my high watermark."

Lewis Rossignol

Lewis Rossignol is a new discovery to Jon. In Jon's words, "he is a student of messy making and getting out of perfection. His work can be sketchy and raw which I find exciting".
